Our Commitment to Child Safety

At The Stockyard Community Farm, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people comes before everything else. We are committed to being a child safe organisation, and we want every child who visits our farm to feel safe, welcome, respected and heard.

We have zero tolerance for child abuse or harm of any kind. All concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child are taken seriously and acted on promptly, in line with our child safety policies and our legal and moral obligations. Every member of our team knows how to recognise, respond to and report concerns, and anyone can raise a concern with us at any time, including children themselves, in ways that make sense to them.

Our commitment in practice means:

We listen to children and young people. We value their voices, take their ideas and worries seriously, and involve them in decisions that affect them.

We employ safe people. All staff and volunteers hold a valid NSW Working With Children Check, complete child safe training, and sign our Child Safe Code of Conduct before working with children.

We welcome every child. We are committed to creating an environment that is inclusive and culturally safe for all children, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children with disability, children from diverse cultural backgrounds, and children who identify as LGBTQIA+.

We work in partnership with families. Families and carers know their children best, and we keep them informed and involved in everything we do.

We keep improving. We regularly review our policies, practices and environment against the NSW Child Safe Standards, and we're registered with the NSW Office of the Children's Guardian.
